Meditation is easy. It is the natural state we are in when we are not thinking but sometimes getting started needs a little explanation.
There are a few simple steps to follow. Soon you will arrive at the quiet space within your being that allows physical, mental and spiritual alignment. Here is a breath Meditation which you can practice at home.
Step 1: Relaxation Relaxing the mind and body is the first step. It is best to meditate sitting up to stop you from falling asleep. You want to be in an alert but relaxed state.
Allow yourself to let go of tensions and stress in the mind and the body by following the breath. When you focus on the breath it allows you to come to a place of relaxation. Bring your attention to the body feeling the chair or floor where you are sitting. Become aware of the breath, noticing it going in through the nostrils and as it goes out. Be aware of your tummy as it rises and falls with the breath.
Step 2: Concentration Concentration allows the mind to continue to focus on the breath and continue to stay in a state connected with your body. When you focus on your breath and just listen to the sounds around you, you can stay alert and clear, simply observing what arises in your senses and thoughts. Continue to return your focus to the breath and the body to stay present. Repeat for as long as you wish.
Step 3: Gassho Gassho to give thanks. Gassho means to place the two palms together. It actually has many meanings and used in several spiritual cultures around the globe. In this context, it means "I see the Buddha nature within you" or "I see the seed of enlightenment within myself and others". Gassho brings all opposing forces together, creating unity within the body by bringing the left and the right side together so the self becomes one. The eyes must be kept on the tips of the middle fingers.
